Dr. Gregory Lauwers, a world-renowned gastrointestinal pathologist, and Dr. Edi Brodi, an internationally recognized authority in breast pathology, join an elite roster of speakers for this fifth annual 2.5-day general surgical pathology course. 

Covering a broad range of subjects in diagnostic pathology, the central themes for this year's course include newly described lesions and rediscovered entities in breast pathology, and the best approach to diagnose gastric polyps and early lesions in the stomach.  Organ systems discussed include gastrointestinal and liver, genitourinary, gynecologic, head and neck, lung, neurologic and hematologic.  Presentations will involve practical discussion of diagnostic challenges, need-to-know molecular updates, and emerging issues.  Attendee participation is encouraged via audience response system and engaging case reviews including interactive sessions using digital pathology.

Target Audience

This course is designed for pathologists, pathologist assistants, pathology fellows and residents, and allied health staff with an interest in diagnostic pathology.  Surgeons and oncologists with an interest in new pathologic staging criteria.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Illustrate recently described lesions and entities in breast pathology
  • Recognize papillary neoplasms of the breast
  • Illustrate pertinent clinicopathologic features of celiac disease and its differential diagnosis
  • Integrate morphologic features and current immunohistochemistry to diagnose metastatic tumors in the liver
  • Integrate efficient molecular assays in the evaluation of non-Hodgkin lymphomas
  • Describe the key distinguishing features of salivary gland tumors and how to report frozen sections in this setting
  • Identify common and uncommon intraductal lesions in the prostate
