The Annual Update in Nephrology and Kidney Transplantation is a two-day symposium designed to update participants on a range of nephrology topics relevant to current medical practice.  Through a combination of lectures, literature review, and case-based presentations, this symposium will deliver up-to-date and cutting edge information that can be directly integrated into clinical practice.

In addition, an introductory workshop “Bedside Ultrasonography for the Nephrologist” will be offered Saturday morning.  This 4-hour hands-on workshop provides participants with techniques used to acquire ultrasound images of the kidneys, bladder and large vessels and guidance in recognizing common pathology detected by ultrasound.  An additional fee of $150.00 is required to participate in this workshop, and space is limited to the first 12 participants.  Sign up for this session on the registration website.

Travel
Minneapolis, Minnesota, is a friendly city that greets thousands of visitors from around the world each year. The city is serviced by the Minneapolis/St. Paul International Airport with multiple flights daily. Access to and from the airport is provided by taxi, shuttle service, light rail and rental car. The airport is located approximately 12 miles from the Radisson Blu Minneapolis.  

Travel arrangements are the sole responsibility of the individual registrant.

Guest rooms have been reserved for attendees and their guests at a special course rate of $169 single/double at The Radisson Blu in Minneapolis, Minn. To receive the course rate, reservations must be made before the room block is filled or by August 19, 2015, whichever comes first.

The registration fee includes tuition, comprehensive electronic course syllabus, continental breakfasts, break refreshments, lunch and reception.

Although it is not Mayo Clinic policy to limit the number of registrants for a course, conference room facilities may necessitate closing of enrollment; therefore, early registration is recommended.

Learning Objectives

Upon conclusion of this program, participants should be able to:

  • Appraise recent publications related to dialysis
  • Summarize outcomes of incident dialysis patients after hospitalization
  • Recognize new antidiabetes medications and the implication for nephrologists
  • Apply clinical pearls in managing patients with kidney stones
  • Integrate recent treatment strategies for ANCA vasculitis in their practice
  • Identify strategies for kidney transplantions across blood barrier
  • Describe short-and long term-issues for kidney donors

For the Bedside Ultrasonography Workshop:

  • Perform ultrasound of the kidneys, bladder, large vessels and lungs
  • Recognize common pathology detected by ultrasound examination
  • Review and apply the principles of central line placement

For the ABIM Medical Knowledge Modules session:

  • Complete two Self-Evaluation of Medical Knowledge modules, worth 10 points each toward the ABIM Maintenance of Certification
