With both a neurosurgery track and a neurology track, this course is designed as a review of targeting, programming, surgical approaches, and operative techniques pertaining to surgical treatment of epilepsy, facial pain, and movement disorders such as Parkinson’s disease, essential tremor and dystonia. The course offers a cadaver workshop as well as augmented reality and advanced programming workshops. The course is designed for neurosurgeons, pain specialists, neurologists, physician assistants, residents, fellows, and mid-level providers interested in movement disorders, to provide a global approach to the movement disorder patients.
Abstract Submissions
Submission Deadline: Friday January 25, 2024
Residents, Fellows, Students, NPPAs, and Nurses are invited to submit an abstract to be included in a poster session at the Mayo Clinic: Rhoton-de Oliveira Treatment Advances in Neurology and Functional Neurosurgery for Movement Disorders, Epilepsy, and Headache 2024 conference on February 1-3, 2024 at Mayo Clinic Florida in Jacksonville, FL.
Submissions for presentation of original research dedicated to the fields of Neurosurgery and Neurology, and more specifically in regards to movement disorders, epilepsy, headache, facial pain, and functional neurosurgery/neurology, will be accepted for review by our course directors. Presentations will be made during the welcome dinner on Friday February 2. Submissions may include and are not limited to guidelines, randomized trials, outcome studies, practice innovations, case studies, case reports or descriptive analyses.
Please note that accepted presenters will be required to pay for and attend the course in person to present their poster live. Virtual presentations will not be accepted. If accepted to present, a discount code for registration will be sent upon approval.

Neurosurgeons, neurologists, radiologists and NPs, PAs, nurses, and residents/fellows in the fields of neurosurgery and neurology
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:
- Identify the major deep brain stimulation procedures to various movement disorders and epilepsy affecting the brain.
- Determine the appropriate approaches, stereotactic and microsurgical techniques for treatment of complex epilepsy.
- Identify complex surgical approaches for facial pain treatment.
- Demonstrate proficiency in techniques during hands-on sessions on cadaveric specimens to improve skills
- Demonstrate proficiency in techniques during hands-on sessions on the programming tablets to improve skills on deep brain stimulation programming.
- Identify multi-specialty treatment options for refractory headaches.
- Apply multidisciplinary decision making to management of complex cases.
