This summit is designed to encourage a national conversation on current challenges and future solutions by involving a broad group of stakeholders in exploring the current state of the access pathway for underrepresented students in medical education. Participants will engage in deconstructing the MD/MD-PhD pathway to identify ways to increase diversity in medicine.
Target Audience
This course is designed for physicians, administrators (including nursing), academics (e.g., academic medical school deans, counselors, and teachers from community colleges and high schools) and community organizations working on diversity pathways.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:
- Discuss evidence that defines the pathway for expanding diversity among physicians and physician scientists
- Identify best practices for expanding the medical education pathway and novel strategies for preparing students to pursue these careers
- Formulate plans for collaborating with other institutions to expand diversity in the medical education pathway
- Identify models for delivering new and updated diversity, equity, inclusion, and anti-racism curriculum in medical education
