This symposium continues to feature evidence-based and cutting-edge diagnostic and treatment strategies for sports-related and musculoskeletal conditions. Expert lectures representing a spectrum of sports medicine fields provide the attendee with multidisciplinary information related to athletic injury evaluation, treatment, prevention, mental health and return to play transition. Multiple educational formats are used, including case presentations, interactive Q&A sessions, as well as live demonstrations of physical examination, anatomy, ultrasound and arthroscopy. As in recent years, the symposium is broadcast via livestream for remote participation.

Target Audience

This CME symposium is designed for physicians, physical therapists, performance/fitness coaches, athletic trainers, chiropractors, and other practitioners who evaluate and treat athletes and other active populations.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Identify clinically-relevant shoulder anatomy, including the rotator cuff tendons, labrum, biceps and cartilage (Domain 2 | Tasks 0202, 0204)
  • Describe essential physical exam maneuvers in the evaluation of shoulder injuries (Domain 2 | Task 0202)
  • Summarize the key elements of rehabilitation and return to play considerations following shoulder instability and identify strategies to identify who is likely to require operative intervention (Domain 4 | Tasks 0401, 0402)
  • List risk factors for shoulder instability (Domain 2 | Tasks 0204, 0205)
  • Describe shoulder instability patterns (Domain 2 | Tasks 0202, 0203, 0204)
  • Summarize the benefits and limitations of ultrasound guided procedures for shoulder disorders (Domain 4 | Tasks 0402)
  • Identify imaging findings of common shoulder injuries (Domain 2 | Tasks 0202)
  • Summarize nonsurgical and surgical treatment options for scapular dyskinesia (Domain 2 | Tasks 0202, 0204)
  • Summarize nonsurgical and surgical treatment options for labral pathology (Domain 2 | Tasks 0202, 0204)
  • Identify strategies to identify who is likely to require operative intervention following shoulder instability (Domains 2, 4 | Tasks 0204, 0402)
