This Mayo Clinic course, specifically designed for infectious diseases practitioners, focuses exclusively on the complexities of managing orthopedic infections. It features dynamic, case-based modules led by experts in the field, addressing both diagnostic and therapeutic challenges. Key topics include controversies and updates in the use of DAIR (debridement, antibiotics, and implant retention) for prosthetic joint infections, the role of dalbavancin in treatment regimens, and strategies for managing fracture-related infections. Each session is followed by engaging, case-based group discussions, facilitated by a panel of seasoned professionals.

Target Audience
This course is designed for infectious diseases specialists, trainees, physician assistants, and nurse practitioners with interest in managing patients with infections.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:
- Examine the validity of performing debridement, antibiotics, and implant retention (DAIR) in chronic prosthetic joint infection.
- Interpret diagnostic criteria for DAIR from the surgical perspective and when patients may not meet those criteria.
- Identify the management of infections related to fractures.
- Analyze the radiographic diagnosis of osteomyelitis.
- Review the definition and indications of chronic antibiotic suppression.
- Formulate a treatment and prophylaxis algorithm for fracture-related infection.
- Describe the most up-to-date management considerations for native septic arthritis.
- Examine key surgical considerations in the management of animal bites and agricultural infections.
