Mayo Clinic's 28th Edition “Teach the Teachers” Advanced Elbow Surgical Skills Course Forge the Future: Arthroplasty is an advanced level course designed for orthopedic surgeons with a special interest in upper extremity trauma, elbow surgery and trauma surgery. The course provides technical skills orientation, with the didactic portions limited to the necessary introductions and theoretical knowledge required for the technical components. Live surgical broadcasts used during lecture sessions demonstrate surgical techniques pertaining to this year's topic of arthroplasty as well as other areas of elbow orthopedics.

Helping us to ‘Forge the Future’ will be our special guest and world-renowned teacher of elbow surgery, Professor Adam Watts, MBBS, BSc, FRCS (Tr & Orth) from Manchester, UK..

Target Audience

This live and livestream course is open to physicians, residents, fellows, physician assistants and physical therapists interested in advanced elbow surgery.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Recognize the indications for the linked and unlinked elbow replacement.
  • Interpret the potential advantages of the linkable implants.
  • Demonstrate technical competency to put in either the linked or the linkable designs in primary and revision cases with and without deformity.
  • Review the complications associated generically with general elbow replacement.
  • Assess the revision options and expected outcomes of the various revision procedures.
  • Describe the techniques for allograft strut reconstruction of the humerus and ulna.
