Hot Topics in Clinical Ethics aims to provide continuing education for clinicians who commonly encounter questions and challenges in clinical ethics in the evolving landscape of medicine. Presentations will use case-based teaching to illustrate common challenges in the inpatient and outpatient care settings that impose ethical dilemmas and moral distress. The course will introduce common ethical frameworks and practical problem-solving approaches to help navigate such challenges.

Target Audience

This multidisciplinary course is designed for physicians, physician assistants, nurses, nurse practitioners, and social workers with an interest in deepening their knowledge of clinical ethics related topics and how they are resolved while also understanding emerging controversies and ethical frameworks to best equip a clinician in practice.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Apply foundational principles, concepts, and frameworks in healthcare ethics to analyze ethical challenges encountered in clinical practice.
  • Evaluate complex and emerging ethical controversies in healthcare by integrating ethical reasoning, clinical context, stakeholder perspectives, and relevant professional guidance.
