Pre-course Workshop - Core Office Procedures in Primary Care: A hands-on Skills Workshop - Live (in-person)
**Optional Pre-Course workshop**
This procedural skills and device management course combines didactic education with hands-on competency validation to help healthcare professionals develop and maintain the knowledge and technical proficiency needed to safely and effectively perform essential procedures in primary care settings.
The didactic portion will be delivered through an asynchronous learning platform featuring interactive online modules, video demonstrations, and evidence-based research, allowing participants to build a strong theoretical foundation at their own pace.
Hands-on competency validation will focus on high-frequency procedures and device management skills relevant to primary care practice. Through expert-led instruction, simulation-based patient scenarios, skills workshops with observation and performance, small-group discussions, and competency/checklist validation, participants will strengthen their ability to confidently and safely perform essential primary care procedures and manage commonly used devices.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this workshop, participants will be able to:
- Determine appropriate indications, contraindications, and patient-selection criteria for commonly performed ambulatory skin, gynecologic, and musculoskeletal procedures.
- Demonstrate appropriate patient preparation, anatomic landmark identification, aseptic technique, local anesthesia, and equipment selection for procedural care.
- Perform the essential steps of selected skin procedures, IUD insertion/removal, incision and drainage, arthrocentesis, and joint/bursal injections using standardized procedural checklists.
- Provide appropriate post-procedure care, patient education, follow-up, specimen management, and clinical documentation.
Attendance at any Mayo Clinic course does not indicate or guarantee competence or proficiency in the skills, knowledge or performance of any care or procedure(s) which may be discussed or taught in this course.
