Endocrinology Workshop

Learning Outcome: This Endocrinology Workshop will be presented in a case-based format and is designed for providers interested in learning management strategies for patients with diabetes and other endocrine disorders. This workshop is supplemental to the Hospital Diabetes lecture scheduled during the main session.
Learning Objectives: Upon Conclusion of this program, participants should be able to:
Objectives for Advanced Diabetes Management:
• Apply foundational diabetes management principles in the following clinical scenarios:
o Enteral and parenteral nutrition
o Patients on dialysis
o Concentrated Insulins
o Diabetes technology (note: not a hands-on diabetes technology session)
▪ How to transition patients from insulin pumps to subcutaneous insulin
▪ Use of point of care testing in patients utilizing glucose sensors
o Recommending oral therapy based on patient comorbidities at discharge
Objectives for Hospital Endocrinology:
• Understand basics and pitfalls of endocrine hormone testing in the inpatient setting.
• Discuss evaluation and management of thyroid, calcium, and cortisol disorders in hospitalized patients
• Understand the foundations of caring for transgender and gender diverse patients in the hospital setting
• Determine when to recommend outpatient endocrinology evaluation
