Motivational Interviewing Strategies to Promote Behavior Change Online CNE Nursing Course
Nurses play a pivotal role in supporting patients in shared decision-making and motivating patients to change health habits. This education will provide nurses with motivational interviewing skills to collaboratively communicate with patients to promote lifestyle changes and engage patients to create an individualized care plan to manage their chronic disease.
*This course does not meet requirements for CEs for the National Board for Health and Wellness Coaching (NBHWC).
Target Audience
This CNE course is designed for RNs, LPNs, and healthcare professionals providing care for patients in any care setting.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:
- Identify change talk in a patient scenario.
- Use active listening skills to identify change talk, discord, sustain talk, ambivalence, and resistance.
- Explore patient’s motivations while resisting the righting reflex.
- Describe techniques to affirm patient successes and stimulate hope and optimism.
