TSAM® Essentials- Fall 2022 LIVESTREAM CNE Course Series Tiered Skills Acquisition Model

This livestream CNE course series is designed to provide tools and strategies to transform your organization's nursing orientation and preceptor programs using the TSAM® Model.
**TSAM® is registered with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.

Session topics include stakeholder buy in and change management, preceptor development, TSAM® orientation record development, and consultation time with our experts. You will receive literature articles, a TSAM® implementation video, an orientation record template, and examples to help you implement TSAM® in your organization.

This CNE course series is a blended learning model with live facilitated sessions, enduring modules, learner assignments, and discussion groups.

Target Audience

This livestream CNE course series is designed for Nursing Professional Development Specialists, Nurse Educators, Nurse Leaders, Preceptor Program Directors, Nurse Residency Program Coordinators, and Orientation Program Directors.

*This course is for non Mayo Clinic learners.

 

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Discuss the key components and benefits of the TSAM® Model
  • Develop effective strategies for preceptors to use to support orientee clinical knowledge development, critical thinking, and clinical judgement
  • Create successful teaching/learning tools of the TSAM® model for implementation at your organization
  • Identify appropriate clinical orientation outcome measures for program evaluation
  • Design a TSAM® implementation plan to use within your organization including timeline, key stakeholders, evaluation plan, and principles for sustainment

TSAM® Faculty

M. Ellen Joswiak, DNP, NPD-BC

Ms. Joswiak is a Nursing Education Specialist currently supporting surgical inpatient and outpatient clinical areas. Ms. Joswiak graduated from Augsburg University in Minneapolis, Minnesota with a Doctorate in Nursing Practice in 2017. Ms. Joswiak is an Assistant Professor of Nursing in the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine. Previously, Ms. Joswiak was an adjunct faculty at Augsburg University and Luther College teaching in the undergraduate nursing program. Ms. Joswiak has worked as a staff nurse for 21 years in various settings including ICU, telemetry and surgical nursing. Ms. Joswiak is board certified in Nursing Professional Development and has a passion for curriculum development, novice nurse transition, evaluation methodology, and evidence based practice and innovation. Ms. Joswiak has presented on the Tiered Skills Acquisition Model® for clinical orientation locally, regionally and nationally.

Dawn M. Nelson, MS, RN, NPD-BC

Dawn M. Nelson is a Nursing Education Specialist and Assistant Professor of Nursing for the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN where she has worked for 33 years. Ms. Nelson currently coordinates the Department of Nursing Preceptor and Mentorship Programs. Prior to this, she supported the Hematology/Oncology/Blood and Marrow Transplant Specialty as a Nursing Education Specialist, worked as a Discharge Planning Specialist and as a staff nurse in the Pediatric, Occupational Health and Surgical specialties. She has also served as adjunct faculty at Winona State University and the University of Minnesota. Ms. Nelson received her BSN in 1988 from Bethel University in St. Paul and her MS from Winona State University in 1998. She is board certified in Nursing Professional Development and has presented on the Tiered Skills Acquisition Model® for clinical orientation locally, regionally, and nationally.

If the cancellation is made prior to the start of the activity, a refund less an administration fee of $25 will be issued. If the cancellation is made after the start of the activity, no refund will be issued. Refunds will be made using the same method as the original payment.
