This module covers the concepts of genetics in oncology and provides you with the foundation you need to incorporate genetic cancer assessment into your practice.
This course is part of the Advancing Care Through Genomics: Essentials for Nursing Practice Specialty Online CNE/CME Courses and was developed under an NHGRI Nursing Education Grant.
These courses are designed for any registered nurse interested in increasing use of genomics in patient care. It may also be of interest to advanced practice nurses, licensed practical nurses, pharmacists, physicians, physician assistants, students, and other members of the health care team.

- Define basic genetic and genomics terms
- Differentiate between how germ line and somatic genetic variants contribute to cancer development
- Describe how a genomic profile may impact cancer risk assessment, prevention, and Management
