Genomics and Oncology: Nursing Practice Online CME Course

Genomic medicine is an integral component of oncology care from risk assessment and prevention through diagnosis and treatment. Physicians, nurses, and healthcare professionals will benefit from understanding key genomic concepts and how they relate to oncology. This module provides nurses and other members of the health care team an overview of genomics, applications to cancer, and valuable resources.
Target Audience
This activity is appropriate for nurses, nurse practitioners, physicians, pharmacists, physician assistants, resident/fellows and other health care team members.
Learning Objectives
Upon conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:
- Define foundational genomic concepts and terminology
- Differentiate between germline and somatic genetic testing
- Describe how a person’s genomic profile may impact cancer risk assessment, prevention and treatment strategies
- Identify at least three genomic education resources
