Workshop II: Manual Therapy Techniques for Muscle Tension Dysphonia/Dysphagia
This didactic lecture combined with hands-on workshop and discussion will introduce evidence based approaches in treatment of muscle tension dysphonia and muscle tension dysphagia. Some of the approaches covered are paralaryngeal assessment, manual laryngeal therapy and manual circumlaryngeal massage, and the conjunctive use of semi-occluded vocal tract exercises.
Learning Objectives
Following attendance at this workshop, participants should be able to:
- Identify paralaryngeal muscles affecting vocal function
- Perform basic circumlaryngeal massage
- Use tactile awareness with paralaryngeal landmarks for digital manipulation
- Explain basic therapy techniques for alleviation of muscle tension dysphonia
