Great Plains Area Indian Health Service Public Health Training Conference and Tuberculosis Nurse Case Management

The Mayo Clinic Center for Tuberculosis (TB) is hosting the Great Plains Area Indian Health Services Public Health Training Conference. Tuberculosis, HIV, Hepatitis C and sexually transmitted infections are among the diseases which impact the health and lives of the Northern Plains Tribes.  Educational content including epidemiology, diagnosis, treatment and medication management of these diseases will be presented during this one-and-a-half-day intensive course.  TB Nurse Case Management will be offered for public health nurses, physicians and other public health staff with an overview of tuberculosis infection, disease and clinical care using an inter-disciplinary and interactive approach.

Learning Objectives

Upon conclusion of this program, participants should be able to:

  • Apply current advances for assessing risk, testing and treating TB, HIV, Hepatitis C and sexually transmitted Infections to prevent development of disease. 
  • Apply recommendations for the diagnosis and treatment of TB, HIV, Hepatitis C and sexually transmitted Infections to prevent transmission and primary drug resistance.
  • Identify appropriate TB, HIV, and Hepatitis C infection control measures along the continuum of care to prevent transmission and future cases.
  • Describe approaches for managing adverse drug effects to medications to minimize toxicity and ensure completion of therapy.
  • Identify how primary care providers and community agencies can collaborate to prevent missed opportunities in the diagnosis and treatment of TB, HIV, Hepatitis C and sexually transmitted Infections
  • Describe the role of the Public Health nurse in the diagnosis and treatment of TB.

Everyone is welcome to attend the Public Health Training sessions from 12:30 – 3:00.   Participants interested in attending TB Nurse Case Management need to register for TB Nurse Case Management.   All other participants need to register for the Public Health Training Conference.
