COVID-19 and Bioethics: The Toll on Humanity and Systems is a livestream event produced by the Mayo Clinic Institutional Review Board and Center for Bioethics. This activity will focus on the impact of the coronavirus pandemic on the healthcare system through specific examination of the effects on the workforce, research and the regulatory environment, vaccines, potential cures, and epidemiologic tracking. The Mayo Clinic experience and adaptive response to the pandemic will be highlighted.

Target Audience

This activity is designed to educate physicians, scientist researcher PhD, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, nurses, psychologists, healthcare executives, residents and fellows on the toll on humanity and systems due to COVID-19.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Define challenges facing systems as a result of the pandemic.
  • Identify potential solutions for systems problems and bioethical dilemmas caused by the pandemic.
  • Recognize new technology being employed to manage the pandemic.
  • Assess novel treatments for COVID-19 and the bioethical concerns and controversies associated with them.
  • Summarize the current status of COVID-19 vaccine development.
