This one-day multidisciplinary, interactive course will provide an introduction to simulation-based education. Topics covered include discussion of: principles of experiential learning, planning a simulation course, writing and implementing scenarios, and debriefing strategies. Participants also have opportunities to practice scenario writing and debriefing with the guidance of experienced faculty. Enrollment is limited to encourage discussion between attendees.
Class size is limited to encourage maximum engagement of all participants. Please register early.
Fees
The registration fee for this one-day course is $360 and is payable at the time of registration.
Target Audience
Individuals of any discipline interested in using simulation for education, assessment, research, or systems improvement.
Learning Objectives
Upon conclusion of this program, participants should be able to:
- Describe fundamental concepts of simulation-based education (SBE)
- Describe elements for well-designed SBE to achieve best learner outcomes
- Develop learner-focused simulation scenarios using best practices in SBE
- Define debriefing and the goals of debriefing
- Demonstrate skills required of a debriefing facilitator

The Simulation Instructor Development: Basic Course is held in the Mayo Clinic Multidisciplinary Simulation Center, which is located on the main floor of the Stabile Building, 150 Third St. SW, Rochester, Minnesota.
