This workshop will help attendees review the pertinent points of the biomechanics in throwing a baseball.   There will be a review on the phases of the throwing motion and how alterations in proper biomechanics can lead to various throwing injuries.  Maneuvers specific to diagnoses encountered in throwing athletes will be discussed and demonstrated and attendees will be able to demonstrate and practice with the help of standardized patients/volunteers. Most importantly, physical exam maneuvers that will help attendees differentiate between diagnoses that mimic each other in terms of presentation will be emphasized.

Target Audience

This course is designed for athletic trainers, physical therapists, NPs, PAs, sports medicine physicians, family physicians, physiatrists, internists, pediatricians, ER physicians, orthopedists, and medical providers involved in the care and management of athletes and active individuals in clinic or non-operative/non-surgical/non-invasive settings.

Learning Objectives

Upon conclusion of this program, participants should be able to:

  • Review the biomechanics of the phases of throwing
  • Review how alterations in proper mechanics can lead to throwing related injuries
  • Review and demonstrate physical exam assessment of the throwing athlete
  • Improve knowledge on basic baseball biomechanics
