Session 3: Meniscal Injuries in Sports

Meniscal tears are the most common knee injuries. In this CME webinar, Mayo Clinic experts will
discuss the latest knowledge and recommendations for treatment of these injuries. Matthew M. Crowe, M.D., Assistant Professor of Orthopedics, will review an age-based approach to relevant anatomy, risk factors for injury, indications for surgery and recommended surgical options. Andreas Remis PT, DPT, Mayo Clinic Physical Therapist, will discuss post-operative rehabilitation strategies
and exercise with the goal of returning an athlete to sport.

Target Audience

This course is designed for the PT, PTA, Allied Health, Physician, Athletic Trainer, PA, Resident/Fellow, Nurse, Scientist Researcher, and Nurse Practitioner.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Classify common meniscal injury patterns based on age and interpret basic meniscal MRI imaging
  • Determine appropriate indications for immediate surgical consultation vs attempted nonoperative treatment
  • Summarize common PT strategies for rehab
