This course will review current approaches to biliary disease management, including diagnostic imaging, endoscopic and interventional therapies, and laparoscopic and robotic common bile duct exploration. Participants will learn evidence-based strategies for managing complex biliary conditions, preventing complications, improving patient outcomes, and developing successful biliary surgery programs.

Target Audience

This course is designed for physicians, residents, fellows, scientists, researchers and PhDs.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Interpret imaging and diagnostic studies used in the evaluation and management of biliary disease.
  • Compare surgical, endoscopic, and interventional treatment options for cholecystitis, choledocholithiasis, and complex biliary disorders.
  • Apply evidence-based techniques for laparoscopic and robotic common bile duct exploration, including the use of intraoperative imaging and advanced biliary instrumentation.
  • Recognize and manage complications of biliary surgery while employing strategies to preserve bile duct integrity in challenging cases.
  • Develop management approaches for special patient populations and patients with gallbladder polyps or incidental gallbladder cancer.
  • Evaluate the clinical and operational considerations for implementing and sustaining a comprehensive biliary surgery program.
