Current trends for management of general surgical patients are constantly changing. As technical advances progress, options for surgical treatments continue to expand. This interactive symposium, designed for general surgeons, assists in decision-making for multiple aspects of surgical practice. Active audience participation with faculty is strongly encouraged during case presentations and the faculty panel discussions. Video Presentations of Surgical Techniques and Interactive Format utilizing Response Keypad System.

LIVE (in-person) attendees must comply with all live course requirements and guidelines and applicable state and local COVID-19 travel restrictions, guidance and resources.  

Please note that all live course attendees must:

Target Audience

General surgeons are the target audience for this symposium.  The topics are universal and apply to all general surgeons, so the activity is marketed to general surgeons both nationally and internationally.  

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to: 

  • Update the multidisciplinary coordination of care in esophageal, gastric, pancreatic, rectal, thyroid and retroperitoneal malignancies.
  • Discuss the mitigation and reduction of surgical complications in cancer surgery.
  • Describe via video presentation the steps of resection of rectal cancer and gastric cancer.
  • Assess endoscopic resection of early colorectal malignancy.

  • The County of Kauai will be implementing a new TAT (Transient Accommodations Tax) tax of an additional 3%, which was effective 10/1/21.  Therefore, total tax collected on a room rate, resort fee and porterage fees, will now be 17.962%, made up of the following:
    State of Hawaii: 10.25%, County of Kauai: 3.00%, State Excise Tax: 4.712%

** Rooms must be booked by January 17, 2022 for special course rates. 

In order to receive the special rate, you can use the Hotel Reservation Link or call hotel reservations at 1-800-742-2353, Monday-Friday, between the hours of 8am and 4pm, HST.  Reservations are on an individual basis and will be guaranteed upon receipt of two (2) nights’ deposit.

Be sure to book early if you have a preference as room type selection is limited. Room block rates are available three days pre course and one day post course, based on availability. Room blocks fill quickly, early reservations are recommended. All rates are based on single or double occupancy. For additional persons 19 years and older, a $40.00 charge per night is applied. There is a maximum of four (4) adults or two (2) adults and two (2) children per room.

LATE CANCELLATIONS AND NO-SHOWS

Thirty Days up to Eight Days Prior to Arrival:  All cancellations received within this time period will be assessed two nights’ room rate, plus applicable taxes. Any adjustments to the reservations will be assessed half of the cancelled night(s) rate, plus applicable taxes.

Seven Days up to Arrival Date:  Any and all adjustments to a reservation within this period will be assessed the cost of the full length of stay, plus applicable taxes. This includes full or partial cancellations or no shows.

COVID19 Notice

We encourage participants to visit the State of Hawaii's COVID19 portal for the latest travel requirement updates.  Complete travel details can be found there. Hawai‘i’s five-day mandatory self-quarantine remains in place for only domestic travel from the U.S. and its Territories. Travelers entering the state who are up to date on their vaccination may bypass quarantine without a pre-travel test. The vaccination record document must be uploaded to Safe Travels and printed out prior to departure and the traveler must have a hard copy in hand when arriving in Hawaiʻi. The State of Hawai‘i will also accept vaccine records that are digitally validated by Digital Health Pass Partners (AZOVACLEAR and CommonPass). Travelers who use one of the State’s partners to link their digitally validated vaccine records with Safe Travels may enjoy expedited processing at the airport (no secondary visual inspection of paper vaccine records).

The State of Hawai‘i is in alignment with federal international requirements for passengers flying directly into Hawai‘i from an international destination and  there are no additional State of Hawaiʻi requirements. The airlines will screen passengers prior to their departure to the U.S. International passengers entering the U.S. from another state or territory will be treated as domestic travelers when entering the State of Hawai‘i.

We continue to welcome other travelers to the Hawaiian Islands with a pre-travel test. This applies only for domestic passengers from the U.S. and its Territories.

Lihue Airport – 15 miles / 30 mins from hotel

Ground Transportation: There are several modes of transportation available for guests when they arrive at Lihue Airport. A shuttle service is available with advance reservations. Rates are based on the number of people, final destination and shared or exclusive travel. Taxis are located curbside at the baggage claim areas.  The hotel concierge can assist you in making any arrangements for transportation.

Airport: Kauai’s main airport is Lihue Airport (LIH) in southeastern Lihue. Many airlines now offer non-stop service to Kauai.
