TEP Inguinal Hernia Repair

This course aims to provide an overview of totally extraperitoneal (TEP) hernia repair for general surgeons who may not have expansive knowledge of the technique. An experienced TEP surgeon will provide didactics, tips and tricks of minimally invasive surgery, and the opportunity to practice the procedure on cadavers, inanimate models, and with video gaming techniques.

Upon conclusion of this program, participants should be able to:
- Identify some of the landmark data that compares TEP hernia repair to open repair.
- Describe the steps of performing a TEP hernia repair.
- Demonstrate understanding of the instruments necessary to perform TEP hernia repair.
- Demonstrate ability to dissect the pre-peritoneal space.
- Demonstrate ability to identify appropriate landmarks required in TEP hernia repair.
- Demonstrate ability to place mesh correctly in the preperitoneal space.
- Assess the possibility of utilizing the TEP hernia repair technique in their own practice.
