Integrated Behavioral Health in Primary Care: System Approaches That Work 2020 - LIVESTREAM

August 15, 2020

Course Directors: Craig N. Sawchuk, Ph.D., L.P. and Mark D. Williams, M.D.

 August 15, 2020 - LIVESTREAM - 7:45 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. Central Time Zone

Primary care providers are on the front line of identifying and treating mental health problems. The primary care setting is often viewed by patients as a more acceptable and accessible mental healthcare home than specialty psychiatry and psychotherapy settings. Large-scale research trials demonstrate the effectiveness of collaborative care of mental health disorders in the primary care setting. Yet, primary care providers and systems are stretched. In this course, we will review the art and science of team-based integrated behavioral health services, including ways to improve the outcomes and quality of patient care with new team members and novel models of program development. This conference will also highlight practical ways healthcare systems can rapidly adapt the type and delivery of integrated services, especially in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Course format involves engaging lectures, rich with case examples within the context of existing and emerging science. Breakout seminars will be interactive and emphasize collaborative learning. Attendees will have opportunities to share their own integrated behavioral health experiences and challenges. Mayo Clinic faculty will share insights and practical applications of lessons learned after years of systematic integrated behavioral health (IBH) efforts. Faculty and attendees will include the many disciplines involved in primary care IBH, including psychiatry, psychology, social work, nursing, pharmacists and primary care.
