This course empowers faculty with the skills and resources to develop and reinforce brave learning environments. Through discussions led by local and national experts, this course examines intrapersonal, interpersonal, institutional, and societal impacts that bias and racism can have on our learners, ourselves, and ultimately our patients. This highly interactive course  offers a unique opportunity to engage in large group learning, dialogue in small group settings, and reflect individually.

Target Audience

This course is designed for Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science faculty including physicians, researchers, and allied health staff.

Learning Objectives

  • Describe actions one can take regarding microaggressions and being an upstander.
  • Develop skills to respond appropriately to microaggressions within formal and informal education settings.
  • Examine the impact faculty support has on our learners during and after a microaggression episode.
  • Utilize the SAFER communication approach to respond when learners and faculty experience patient or visitor misconduct.
