Mayo Clinic’s Critical Care Review for the Nurse Practitioner and Physician Assistant is an interactive course designed for advanced practice providers working with critically ill adult patients. The course is comprised of lecture-based sessions covering essential acute care topics such as vasoactive support, ECMO, secondary trauma assessment, intracranial pressure, anticoagulant reversal, acute liver failure, toxicology, and more. Each day offers an optional ultrasound workshop and an optional procedural skills workshop (workshops are repeated with the same content on both days to increase attendee capacity for each). These workshops provide both introductory and advanced concepts in ultrasound, airway management, and bedside procedures necessary for daily practice in an intensive care setting.

This course is designed for nurse practitioners, physician assistants, hospital and intensive care physicians and residents, registered nurses, allied health professionals, respiratory therapists, and NP/PA students in acute care.

Residents, Fellows, Students and NPPAs are invited to submit an abstract to be included in a poster session at the Mayo Clinic Critical Care Review for the Nurse Practitioner and Physician Assistant 2024 conference on April 5-6, 2024 in Jacksonville, FL.
Submissions for presentation of original research dedicated to the fields of Critical Care Medicine will be accepted for review by our course directors. Presentations will be made both days of the course during the lunch hour. Submissions may include and are not limited to guidelines, randomized trials, outcome studies, practice innovations, case studies, case reports or descriptive analyses.
Please note that accepted presenters will be required to pay for and attend the course in person to present their poster live. Virtual presentations will not be accepted. If accepted to present, a discount code for registration will be sent upon approval.

Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:
- Develop differential diagnoses for common presenting symptoms in the critically ill patient and order/interpret diagnostic testing based on these differentials.
- Recognize normal and abnormal function of mechanical support devices and troubleshoot commonly encountered problems.
- Demonstrate ultrasonographic image acquisition and interpretation of cardiac, lung, abdominal, and vascular images.
- Recognize the need to tailor pharmacologic and procedural interventions to the unique characteristics of the critically ill patient.
- Demonstrate the ability to perform the following procedures: central vascular access, intubation, bronchoscopy, emergency cricothyrotomy, and percutaneous tracheotomy.
