This three-day course provides attendees a multidisciplinary review of standard of care management practices and state-of-the-art advances in care of the patient with cutaneous malignancy, particularly melanoma but including squamous cell cancer. The first day focuses on epidemiology, prevention, pathology, surgical treatment and advances in systemic therapy for patients with melanoma and squamous cell cancer. Afternoon sessions focus on surgery, medical oncology and introduction to dermoscopy. The final two days are an in-depth immersion into dermoscopy for evaluating skin diseases with a focus on neoplasms. Participants develop practical skills that enable confidence and comfort when approaching patients with potentially dangerous skin lesions.

Target Audience

The intended audience is dermatologists, surgeons, oncologists, physicians, NPs and PAs in internal medicine, family medicine and general practice.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Recognize pattern analysis and simple algorithms for the identification of skin neoplasms, benign and malignant.
  • Identify and differentiate malignant melanocytic and non-melanocytic lesions from benign lesions using dermoscopy.
  • Describe uses of dermoscopy outside the discipline of cutaneous malignancy, including inflammatory disorders.
  • Describe how to approach skin cancer in adults in general and in special circumstances.
  • Assess how to approach skin lesions in children.
  • Review and compare biopsy techniques and indications.
  • Cite novel approaches for the treatment of squamous cell cancer and melanoma, including intralesional.

It is the CME activity provider's responsibility to submit learner completion information to ACCME for the purpose of granting ABS credit.
