This CME course equips hospital-based clinicians to manage complex conditions, coordinate care transitions, support perioperative care, improve quality and safety, and strengthen leadership in the hospital setting.

Target Audience

This program is designed for inpatient care providers, including physicians, advanced practice providers, residents, and fellows. It is especially relevant to clinicians in internal medicine, family medicine, and other specialties that care for hospitalized patients.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Recognize early clinical indicators of sepsis and the time‑sensitive steps required for appropriate antibiotics, hemodynamic assessment, and escalation or de‑escalation.
  • Apply current evidence and guideline updates to guide empiric therapy selection, duration decisions, and de‑escalation strategies for hospitalized pneumonia.
  • Differentiate management strategies for complex VTE scenarios to determine an evidence‑based anticoagulation plan.
  • Diagnose inpatient hyponatremia using urine studies and volume assessment to guide safe correction and monitoring.
  • Describe a structured serious‑illness conversation that elicits patient values, communicates prognosis or uncertainty clearly, and documents goal‑concordant treatment recommendations for the inpatient team.
