Target Audience
This program is designed for healthcare professionals who are involved in the evaluation, diagnosis, and management of patients with rheumatologic and musculoskeletal conditions. It is particularly well-suited for internists, family medicine physicians, rheumatologists, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and other advanced practice providers seeking a comprehensive and practical update in rheumatology. The curriculum will also benefit residents, fellows, and clinicians in related specialties such as dermatology, cardiology, pulmonology, and infectious disease who encounter systemic manifestations of autoimmune disorders. With a focus on both foundational concepts and advanced clinical approaches—including diagnostic strategies, laboratory interpretation, treatment options, and hands-on musculoskeletal examination—this course equips participants to confidently manage common and complex rheumatic diseases in a variety of clinical settings.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:
- Evaluate the etiology, pathogenesis, diagnosis, and evidence-based management of rheumatologic conditions, incorporating current clinical guidelines and recent therapeutic advances.
- Apply principles of rheumatologic laboratory testing to accurately interpret results and integrate findings into clinical decision-making.
- Differentiate rheumatologic conditions that can be effectively managed in primary care from those requiring referral to a rheumatology specialist based on clinical presentation and diagnostic criteria.
- Integrate current evidence and guidelines to manage patients with autoimmune rheumatic diseases during pregnancy, recognizing sex-based differences in disease prevalence and presentation.
