Designed for endocrinologists and interested internists and surgeons, this course addresses gaps in medical knowledge and barriers in clinical practice to improve the outcomes of patients with endocrine and metabolic disorders.  This program will consist of lecture, small group, panel discussion formats covering best practices, barriers to optimal patient outcomes and new approaches to the evaluation and management of complex and common endocrine disorders.

Target Audience

This course is designed to meet the professional needs of practicing endocrinologists, endocrine surgeons and interested internists who care for adults with endocrine disorders.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Identify the patient who would benefit from SGLT 2 inhibitors in the management of Type 2 diabetes and improve cardiovascular outcomes.
  • Detect potential complications with the use of SGLT 2 inhibitors.
  • Recognize the indications for immune checkpoint inhibitors in cancer therapies.
  • Identify endocrine-related adverse effects of immune checkpoint inhibitors for both clinical and diagnostic approaches.
  • Examine treatment strategies for checkpoint-induced endocrinopathies.
  • Recognize the genomics of medullary thyroid cancer.
  • Identify current and recently approved systemic treatment options for patients with advanced medullary thyroid cancer.
  • Develop treatment strategies for patients with MTC, when to start systemic therapy, which drug to use first, and salvage therapy options for treatment of refractory disease.
  • Manage factors that contribute to bone loss after bariatric surgery to prevent metabolic bone disease.
