In the last several years, healthcare providers have seen an influx of transgender and intersex people seeking sensitive and appropriate care. This pioneering course offers cutting-edge perspectives and practical evidence-based principles for working with transgender and intersex individuals. Experts from Mayo Clinic's Transgender and Intersex Specialty Care Clinic instruct attendees in medical, surgical, psychosocial, legal and ethical issues in transgender and intersex care. Participants leave with the knowledge and skills to provide gender-affirming care across settings.

Target Audience
This course is designed for physicians, advanced care providers, behavioral health professionals, nurses, and social workers in the areas of psychiatry, psychology, endocrinology, family medicine, internal medicine, plastic surgery, urology and pediatrics.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:
- Describe how to safely and effectively utilize gender-affirming, non-hormonal as well as hormonal interventions for appropriate patients.
- Identify the social discrimination, microaggressions and limitations to health care many transgender and intersex people experience, and describe strategies to limit these in your practice and community.
- Recall three key psychosocial treatment principles to guide a comprehensive approach to transgender and intersex patients.
- Describe general approaches to common surgical interventions in gender-affirming surgery.
- Appreciate the differences in health care strategies across the lifespan.
