Foundations of Critical Care Nursing Online CNE Course: Arterial Blood Gas (ABG) Interpretation

Arterial Blood Gas (ABG) analysis provides the critical care team with information about the patients oxygenation, ventilation and acid base balance.  Understanding how to interpret and anticipate patient needs from ABG is a critical care skill.  This course provides information on ABG interpretation and an opportunity to apply content through case scenarios and multiple choice questions.

Target Audience

This CNE course is designed for RNs, LPNs, and healthcare professionals providing care for progressive and critical care patients.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Identify normal values for an ABG
  • Recognize acid base imbalances and how to interpret them
  • Differentiate between respiratory acidosis, respiratory alkalosis, metabolic acidosis & metabolic alkalosis
