This livestream course provides an overview of the foundational principles of genetic counseling; including its history, core concepts, methods, and the essential role of genetic counselors in patient care. Attendees will gain a clear understanding of the genetic counseling process, from initial patient interactions to delivery of complex genetic information.

This nursing conference is designed for nurses interested in increasing use of genomics in patient care.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:
- Identify and summarize the basic genetic counseling concepts, including key terminology and fundamental principles
- Understand the overarching concepts of genetic counseling, including its evolution, goals, and the ethical considerations involved in patient interactions
- Understand the role of a genetic counselor in patient care, emphasizing how genetic counselors work with patients, families, and healthcare teams to navigate genetic conditions and provide tailored care plans
