The 10th annual Mayo Clinic Tackling Problematic Sinusitis course moves to Hawaii this year!  

This course will tackle a plethora of post-pandemic problems and share progress made in all things related to the nose and the sinuses. Topics will address contemporaneous needs of general otolaryngologists and advanced care practitioners who wish to master rhinologic care. Presentations will be offered by world-class leaders in rhinology and allergy-immunology through interactive sessions. Learners can expect a comprehensive curriculum that will cover updates and advances in office- based procedures, medical therapeutics, biologics, smell loss, epistaxis, tumors, chronic rhinosinusitis, COVID-19 and surgical techniques. Personalized medical and surgical strategies that help optimize outcomes will be discussed. Techniques covered will include repair of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leaks and skull base defects, septal perforation, difficult septoplasties, injection sclerotherapy for hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia (HHT) as well as primary and revision sinus surgery. 

Understanding the challenges that the pandemic has placed upon healthcare workers, the schedule is designed to give you time and space to build joy and resilience with your colleagues, friends and family.

  • A positive COVID-19 test result of any kind was received within the past 90 days, it has been at least 10 days since COVID-19 infection, and you are currently asymptomatic.  
  • You must be logged in to ce.mayo.edu to  complete your attestation.   (Attestations can be completed starting Sunday, August 14, 2022) 

Learners who do not fulfill the above requirements will be unable to attend this live (in-person) event. 

Requirements and guidelines may be amended as CDC, public health and other relevant guidance are adjusted.

Practicing otolaryngologists, allergists, physician assistants and nurse practitioners in ENT, audiologists and speech language pathologists, and nurses with a strong interest in ENT care.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Apply one new strategy in optimizing success from surgery for chronic rhinosinusitis and epistaxis
  • Identify the cause of smell disorders associated with COVID-19
  • Summarize strategies to prevent and address surgical complications in sinus surgery
  • State status of current research in mitigating unmet needs in rhinology

Plus applicable city/state taxes and a $25 resort fee per room per night, is available for course participants and guests. Currently, the sales tax rate is 4.712%, county transient accommodations tax is 3.00%,and the hotel occupancy tax rate is 10.25%, for a total of 17.962% (subject to change without notice). Mayo Clinic group rates apply three days prior to and three days post-course dates, based on availability.

To confirm a sleeping room within the Room Block, the sleeping room must be secured with a valid credit card provided either by the guest attending the Event, along with a first night's deposit, refundable up to 7 days in advance of arrival. Checks and major credit cards are acceptable to establish prepayment. All credit cards used to prepay the room deposit may be charged immediately.

  • Extra Person for every third and fourth occupant in the room is $50.00 per person, per night plus tax (maximum of four persons), subject to change
  • Children under 18 stay free if in same room as parents, utilizing existing bedding
  • Rollaway charge is currently $95.00 plus tax, per rollaway, per night (subject to change)
  • Guaranteed Connecting Rooms will be assessed a charge of $50.00 plus tax per night, per pair (subject to change)

We encourage participants to visit the State of Hawaii's COVID19 portal for the latest travel requirement updates.  Complete travel details can be found there. Hawai‘i’s five-day mandatory self-quarantine remains in place for only domestic travel from the U.S. and its Territories. Travelers entering the state who are up to date on their vaccination may bypass quarantine without a pre-travel test. The vaccination record document must be uploaded to Safe Travels and printed out prior to departure and the traveler must have a hard copy in hand when arriving in Hawaiʻi. The State of Hawai‘i will also accept vaccine records that are digitally validated by Digital Health Pass Partners (AZOVACLEAR and CommonPass). Travelers who use one of the State’s partners to link their digitally validated vaccine records with Safe Travels may enjoy expedited processing at the airport (no secondary visual inspection of paper vaccine records).

The State of Hawai‘i is in alignment with federal international requirements for passengers flying directly into Hawai‘i from an international destination and  there are no additional State of Hawaiʻi requirements. The airlines will screen passengers prior to their departure to the U.S. International passengers entering the U.S. from another state or territory will be treated as domestic travelers when entering the State of Hawai‘i.

We continue to welcome other travelers to the Hawaiian Islands with a pre-travel test. This applies only for domestic passengers from the U.S. and its Territories.
