This course aims to build meaningful connections and cultivate a sense of belonging for medical educators through lecture-based and small-group discussions. Successful ways of engaging with learners, teaching mentors to be coaches, and ways to mitigate burnout by rediscovering happiness, joy, gratitude, and value in teaching and medical education are covered in this work-life integrated activity.

Abstract Submissions

As part of the Mayo Clinic Faculty Development 2026: Empowering Medical Educators, you are invited to submit an abstract for a poster presentation.
Submission Deadline: Complete and submit abstracts no later than February 20, 2026.
Abstract Eligibility: Due to logistical and administrative considerations, this opportunity is only available to Mayo Clinic registrants.
Notification of Results: All primary authors will be notified by March 9, 2026, if their submission has been selected for presentation. Details regarding presentation will follow.
Presentation of Abstracts: Abstracts chosen for presentation will be presented during the Mayo Clinic Faculty Development 2026: Empowering Medical Educators course held May 29 - 31,2026.

Target Audience

This course is designed for healthcare professionals who have faculty and teaching responsibilities in allied health, undergraduate, graduate, or post-doctoral educational programs. Physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, pharmacists, nurses, physical therapists, and speech-language pathologists may benefit from this program.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Differentiate between mentoring, coaching, and advising roles to apply best practices for learner development and professional identity formation.
  • Select and implement appropriate assessment tools and strategies to measure learner performance and progress across key competency domains.
  • Demonstrate the effective use of generative AI to support faculty and administrators.
  • Describe how to network with other medical educators.
