Mayo Clinic’s Critical Care Review for the Nurse Practitioner and Physician Associate is an interactive course designed for advanced practice providers working with critically ill adult patients. The course is comprised of lecture-based sessions covering essential acute care topics such as vasoactive support, ECMO, secondary trauma assessment, intracranial pressure, anticoagulant reversal, acute liver failure, toxicology, and more.

Target Audience

This course is designed for Advanced Practice Providers, including Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants, who provide care for critically ill adult patients in acute and critical care settings. Mayo Clinic’s Critical Care Review for the Nurse Practitioner and Physician Assistant 2027 is an interactive 3-day course featuring evidence-based didactic presentations and hands-on simulation experiences. Participants will receive multidisciplinary perspectives on common critical care topics to support the evaluation and management of complex adult patients

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Evaluate and implement evidence-based management strategies for common critical illness syndromes, including acute respiratory failure, shock, severe infections, and neurologic emergencies.
  • Incorporate advances in critical care pharmacology, antimicrobial stewardship, transfusion medicine, vasoactive therapies, and mechanical circulatory support into comprehensive patient management plans.
  • Differentiate the underlying pathophysiology and manage complex acute illness states, including toxicologic, endocrine, neurologic, infectious, hematologic, and cardiovascular disorders, with evidence-based pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic interventions.
