  • Describe the improvements in the tools and equipment that may successfully allow for ureteroscopic treatment of large stones.
  • Review the risks associated with newer technologies compared to the standard of care.
  • Review how to use the technologies available.
  • Assess the appropriateness of ureteroscopy for patients presenting with large renal or ureteral stones, using current clinical guidelines and criteria to guide treatment planning.
  • Evaluate and counsel patients on the risks and benefits of advanced ureteroscopic technologies (e.g., ureteral access sheaths, single-use ureteroscopes) compared to traditional treatment modalities like shock wave lithotripsy or percutaneous nephrolithotomy.
  • Compare the effectiveness of modern ureteroscopic instrumentation and adjunctive technologies—such as digital ureteroscopes, flexible scopes, and laser lithotripsy platforms—in improving stone clearance rates for larger calculi.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in selecting and applying appropriate ureteroscopic tools and techniques for managing large stones, based on patient-specific factors and current evidence-based practices.
